Love sushi, poke bowls or sushi burrito? Zukku Sushi’s fare delighted Tampa Bay’s foodies when it opened in 2018 in the Heights Public Market at Armature Works in Tampa; and now Charlotte residents and visitors can say yum to Zukku Sushi’s with their 2nd location now open in the hip Optimist Hall.
Since their August opening, owner Ferdian Jap says, " We are happy to be in Charlotte and serve the best sushi rolls, poke bowls, or sushi burrito. We use only the best and freshest ingredients to create our amazing masterpieces. We hope you will love it as much as we do!
Spiced just right, the sushi, sushi burrito bowls and poke appeal to those who like to personalize their plate for their palate. Zukku translates to canvas, and at this restaurant rice is the canvas. Whether you want your dish as a burrito or a bowl, create your masterpiece with the freshest and highest quality ingredients.
First, decide whether you want your dish in a burrito wrap or poke bowl (little poke comes with one protein, big poke with two.)
Start with white or brown rice or go veggie with mixed greens (bowl only). Now comes the fun. Embellish your dish with delectable panko chicken; raw ahi tuna, salmon, spicy tuna or Hamachi (yellow tail); a spicy crab mix or fried tofu.
Dress up your dish with one or more of these sauces: spicy mayo, tangy ginger dressing, Ponzu or poke sauce, sweet eel, Siracha Vin, sweet Thai or sweet and spicy.
Your burrito or bowl comes with mixed greens and carrots, and for just $.50 you can add a dash of cucumbers, edamame beans, roasted corn, cream cheese, asparagus, steamed broccoli or grilled pineapple, wakame seaweed salad, avocado for $.75.
Feeling creative? Top it off with cilantro, scallions, tempura or wonton chips, sesame seeds, pickled red onions, pickled serrano peppers or for $.50 more, choose roe or spicy Nori.
Wash it down with a sake, wine, Sapporo beer or soda. The sake menu is small, but lovely featuring sweet Nigori, full-bodied Junmai, a dry Junmai Ginjo, delicate Junmai Diaginjo or sweet fruity concoction (cucumber, lychee or white peach). Take home a Sake Bomb Kit (souvenir pint glass, sake shot glass and chopsticks) for just $15, a reminder of your delightful repast.
Just in time for the holidays, why not cater your office party with the help of the Zukku Sushi party elves? Zukku Sushi is perfect for an at-home celebration or an office event, wedding, birthday, fundraiser and more.

About Optimist Hall: Part food hall, part retail and part creative office space, Charlotte's new Optimist Hall is all about moving the city’s food, trade and culture forward. With a name that recalls the beginnings of the industrial South, and a space dedicated to innovation, sustainability, experimentation and urban renewal, this is a vision that will transform the city as it races to become one of the South’s best live/work/play communities. Optimist Hall is in a turn-of the-century textile mill that sits on an 11.9 acre parcel on E. 16th Street in Charlotte’s Optimist Park neighborhood. It's just on the outskirts of town and in close proximity to the light rail, boasting views of the uptown skyline. The success of Charlotte’s 7th Street Public Market has shown there’s demand for a food hall.
