Instability has plagued the sprawling 24,000 sq.ft. downtown building at 124 S. South St. since Charles Gunn bought it in 2004 for another evening entertainment venture. But the longtime Gastonia nightclub owner will take another shot at consistency at the newly renamed Charley's Restaurant and Entertainment Club. Entertainment will be beach, rock, blues and country music. The venue will feature entertainment in the beginning stages on Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., and eventually open on Friday nights. The nightclub will make use of four different rooms for dining and entertainment. It will be available to rent for class reunions, wedding receptions and other private parties. "I really wanted some time off there for a while,” he said. "Now I'm ready to go back to work.”
